No fish 'ryba'

St. Petersburg was always a city with the most weird and (often) bizarre restaurants in this country. ‘Ryba’ restaurant definitely means ‘fish’ but no fish is served there. Italian cuisine – pizzas, pastas, risottos – but no fish. I think it’s a bit mean. Like playing practical jokes on unsuspected customers. The 1st of April every day.

The chef on the menu certainly seems aware of the joke - eyeballing you with an wicked smile, as he peers through the big ZERO made by his thumb and forefinger.

That's right .. no feesh fohr yuu!

Maybe the name comes from the slang word Russian lawyers use to refer to a form or "boilerplate" document - also ryba - with the meaning being that the food offered is standard fare. What I can read of the menu (text is a bit blurry in places) suggests that it's all standard stuff, although then they do say it's "novaya" Italian food. Who knows, those folks in Piter always like to be inscrutable.
